Brand Reading Response

New things I learned:

The brand touch points were super interesting to list, specifically highlighting the things that brands should ensure they are connecting with their audience through design at each point to be as effective as possible. Additionally, the specific steps involved in the process of creating a brand are extremely interesting, and I was unaware of them before. Another thing was understanding different parts of when to start the process and what it would look like for different brands in different stages of development. I also didn’t realize how much brand design is involved in making or breaking a business, and how much there is in brand design.

What excites me:

I like the idea of brands being physically interactive. I haven’t ever thought about how important brand decisions are to the actual product in detail, so I am excited to see how my understanding grows! I am excited to learn this skill in general because of how important it is. I want to become a tattoo artist after I graduate, so learning how to build my own brand is so important. I am excited to learn different styles of logo to create something more modern and learn how to design in a simpler and cleaner style. I am just generally excited to learn so much more!

Choose a brand not in the materials with which you have a relationship. How does it touch your life in different ways? How successful is the logo in representing it? What do you want it to do that it doesn’t?

I would say a specific brand I tend to latch on to is Buff City Soap. I have some fond childhood memories of going there with my mom. I love the smells and how it is a source of self-care for me. I went with my mom to Missouri for a conference in early high school after I was having a really rough time. We went walking around town, and we saw a Buff City Soap, and we are a very bouji family when it comes to soaps and bath products. We had so much fun in that store, and the employees were so sweet. It is super cute and has unique scents and soaps. I also feel it is interactive in a very personal way since they actually make the soaps in front of you at certain locations. The logo is super cute, clean, and friendly. The packaging for the company, I feel, is very nice. It definitely represents the company in my eyes. I think the only thing I can think of that I have an issue with the logo is that the color is hard to read on some fabrics and buildings. Otherwise, I have always had a soft spot for the company.
