Movie Analysis

Pitch Perfect feels like a movie about figuring out how to be yourself while still being apart of a team and something bigger than just yourself. I like how it shows that blending different personalities and styles can actually make something better. You can really see the clash between Beca and Aubrey towards the end of the movie, when Beca wants to modernize the group number while Aubrey wants to keep it traditional. I really liked the final number because it showed how far the group had come in working together as a group and becoming more of a whole. Fat Amy is a really great character in this movie because she’s unfiltered yet supportive, which helps to lighten the group’s mood when things get tense and just overall balance out the movie.

1) Aubrey

Aubrey is the controlling, perfectionist leader of the Barden Bellas. She’s very adamant on sticking to the traditional old-school routines and isn’t a big fan of change, which causes a lot of tension between her and Beca. It’s clear that she really cares about her reputation and just wants to be respected again after what happened on stage at the last competition. I think that behind the front of wanting control, she just wants to feel valued and a lot of her motivation comes from wanting to prove herself. She seems like the type to be overly organized and plan things very specifically and down to the minute, and if the slightest thing goes off track she freaks out.

2) Fat Amy

Fat Amy is the comic relief of the group, but she’s also one of the more authentic and confident members. She doesn’t care what people think about her and she makes that clear from the start of the movie. Her humor breaks the tension when things start to get too serious and her energy helps keep the group grounded. She’s proud to be herself, and I feel like she cares a lot about just enjoying life and not letting anything consume her. She seems like the type to spontaneously travel or always be in a social setting. I think that a lot of her motivation comes from just wanting to have a good time.

3) Benji

Benji is the nerdy freshman who’s really into magic tricks and obsessed with the Treblemakers and a cappella music.Even though the rest of the group doesn’t take him seriously, he becomes apart of the Treblemakers later on in the movie after the leader leaves for a job and a spot opens up. His character adds a bit of heart to the story, he shows pure enthusiasm and passion for performing and his hobbies. His presence helps to balance out the harsh energy of the rest of the Trebles. He clearly cares about belonging and wanting to be accepted without having to change. He seems like the type to go all-in on whatever he’s interested in at the time. He’s motivated by his passions, and I think that he’d turn every hobby of his into a full-blown obsession if he gets the chance.
