Pitch Perfect Post

Overall reaction to film
I’ve seen this movie probably about a thousand times. Great to see it again! I view this movie as representing the “classic, stereotypical college experience”. Frisbees and picnic blankets and frat parties and drinking and weird romance. It’s strange to watch it fully now that I’ve been through college, like dang all of that really did not happen. But I still love seeing the perspective of performance type clubs, especially since I haven’t had the opportunity to participate in any sort of creative performances in my time in college. I used to be deep into the theatre and band scene, it’s like living vicariously through a shitty movie. I also love watching musical performances, so pitch perfect is a fun movie to watch.

Select Three Characters

Donald

A member of the Treblemakers, and specializes in rapping and beatboxing. He is a flirt, being seen flirting with Lily on the bus he was driving to the acapella competition. He is described as Bumper’s “right hand man”, and was expected to take over the group when Bumper left, but the group was taken over by Jesse and Benji. He is a senior, so I imagine that while he cares an other about the group, he is less keen to take on too much responsibility. But I imagine he must still be keen to win within his senior year.

Luke

Luke runs the radio station that Beca and Jesse work at (WBUJ, and also runs a radio station called 85.7, Music for the Independent Mind) . He is chill, laid back, and quite flippant. He doesn’t allow Beca to be in the radio booth since she’s a college freshman. When Beca gives Luke a thumb drive of the music that she made, he throws it into a pile with multiple other thumb drives that Beca gave him. Beca eventually hears her music on the radio, in which Luke compliments her music. But he doesn’t care too much about Beca’s existence, since he keeps calling her Becky. I feel like his motivations include music production and technology. His hobbies seem to be music-related, and he likes to be in the background but also at the forefront of his work.

Chloe Beale

Chloe is the co-leader of the Barden Bellas along with Aubrey. She is older than most of the Bellas because she intentionally failed one of her classes over and over so that she wouldn’t graduate, staying as a Barden Bella for longer. She reveals later in the film that she has vocal nodules that she needs to get removed. When she gets them removed, she finds that she can sing the bass notes better. She tried to be the calm voice of reason to tone down Aubrey’s control freak behavior, but she ends up snapping. She tells Aubrey that she feels as if she has no say in Bella decisions, and that she’s being treated solely like a member and not as a co-leader. Her motivations seem to be tied deeply within the success of the Bellas, but she learns to value her own life more when she graduates college. There is a joke within the movie that she is very likely interested in women.
