Talk To Me Analysis

Overall, this film was pretty good to me. I really liked the cinematography and thought it was really well produced. I think the characters were also well played. I think the overlaying theme of this movie was how things like grief and isolation can play into substance abuse. I think that the hand was the “substance” and the fact that Mia was dealing with the death of her mom and saw the hand as a way to “cope” with it. I think this is a really interesting way to show that. I noticed especially after seeing her mom in Riley she became very obsessed and seemed very irratic throughout the movie. Things always seemed to lean back to the hand.

  1. Duckett

Duckett serves a foreshadowing type of character who is in a very similar position to the main character Mia but before we even know. There isn’t much know about what he cares about but he says “you’re not him” talking about his father which infers that he used the hand and saw his dead father. This is very similar to what happens to Mia later in the movie. I envision this character being a quiet person who keeps to themselves. I think he’d. be interested in music and the outdoors outside of the movie.

2. Riley

Riley is the younger brother of Mia and serves as a good portrayal of trying substance as an adolescence. Riley cares about his sister and friends. I imagine him liking spending time with his friends and hanging out. He seems like an impressional kid so I imagine him being a follower. Things that motivate him are his friends.

3. Hayley

I think Hayley serves as the temptation in this movie. She is the pressure that gets everyone to try the hand and I see her as caring about things like parties and status. I think her interests outside of the movie would setting up parties and going out.
