04 Film Analysis Post

Honestly, this was my first time watching Pitch Perfect. I could’ve sworn I’ve watched it before, but I was getting it confused with Mean Girls the whole time. Pitch Perfect was a long movie for me, and it kept losing my focus at some points- BUT it grew on me. I ended up loving it overall, and I was in awe of every mashup they created. This movie had a lot of cringe and crude humor, which I love. It did a really good job of having characters with such individualistic and interesting characteristics, which makes sense why this was a perfect movie for this project. I was never bored, and even when I was about to lose focus, there was always something to reel me in. I had multiple favorite lines throughout the film but it would be overkill to type them all down- but the one that stood out to me the most was:

Even though some of you are pretty thin, I think that you all have fat hearts, and that’s what matters.” -Fat Amy

Also as a Superbad fan (I know- not the best movie), I loved Fogell’s cameo.

Aubrey Posen

Known as the Barden Bellas leader. A headstrong character who can easily be seen as a mean girl. She cannot take criticism, and in my opinion, she is a bad leader. She seems to only want what is best for her and not what’s in everyone else’s best interest. At the start of the movie, she is jealous of Beca and hates it whenever she pitches (no pun intended) in an idea. Her actions are very much crucial to the film as she can stir up chaos and cause major conflict within the Bellas. Throughout the majority of the film, all she cared about was wanting to perform well and not recreate the same incident of the previous year, and she made it everyone’s problem. Performing well is also her main motivating factor.

Benji Applebaum

An awkward but charming character in the film. In love with magic tricks, and adds a humorous element to the film. He idolizes the Treblemakers and, unfortunately, gets his audition rejected at the beginning. Even though he didn’t have a big part in the film throughout the majority of it, he was very supportive of everyone and even helped out backstage for the finals. Although what he cares about doesn’t seem to be evident in the film, it seems like he cares about wanting acceptance from people as someone who keeps getting shut down for “being weird.” He is very motivated by wanting a part, and at the end, we can see his light really shine once he gets his chance to get on stage, and as he briefly mentioned at the beginning, he said he loves performing. He killed his solo, and I was honestly super proud of him. It was a full circle when his line he sang was “I’ve got the magic in me.” Honestly, I felt very maternal towards him LOL.

Lilly Onakuramara

A super duper quiet girl (like literally, you can’t hear a single word she says) who is part of the Bellas. She is one of the characters with very minimal lines, but in the end, she really surprises you with her rapping, singing, and burst of energy. She is very quirky and has dark and mysterious ideals. She gave the film a quirky and humorous side, just like Benji did. I’m not too sure what motivates her or what she cares about, but I would assume it would be similar to Benji’s, where she wants a place to fit in and find her voice.
