What did I learn about brand?
I learned that there are way more aspects to creating a brand than I had expected. It’s not just about vision, but feeling too. In the designing brand reading, a quote reads, “Design differentiates and embodies the intangibles — emotion, context, and essence–that matter most to consumers.” The idea that design, specifically for branding, is embodying something that people cannot materialistically have is a unique perspective that is especially important when developing a brand.
What excites me about designing a brand?
I am excited to create a brand that evokes a strong and niche feeling. I want to create something that, whether good or bad, makes the consumer feel strongly towards the brand.
Brand Relationships???
COTOPAXI! A brand that I love and definitely have a strong relationship with. Primarily, I use Cotopaxi-branded bags, so I have daily interactions with products they produce. Whenever I take my Cotopaxi bag out of my backpack, I always feel like I am flaunting a semi-niche and super high-quality product. It feels exclusive. The logo is EXTREMELY successful. It’s simple, representative of its natural and friendly identity, iconic and recognizable; it has everything. I don’t know what I want my brand logo to do that Cotopaxi’s doesn’t. I find that the llama works as a great secondary logo but still looks amazing when paired with the custom font choice.
