Identity Readings Response

The reading makes me wonder where the original iconic logo designers got their inspiration and guidelines from. We as designers do a ton of research and studying on classic logos, but where did those classic designers get their ideas? Were they just born that good?

I liked the segment in Incorporate Tradition as it reminded me of the wrong turns brands are making with their minimalist approach to design in an attempt to look modern. One brand which particularly disappointed me by following the soulless modern approach is Annie’s Homegrown:

Not only do consumers hate change, but consumers are not stupid; they can tell when a brand is only following a trend set by others. Every few years we have to sit and watch as each app in our phones rebrands to emulate whatever is most popular at the time, instead of any brands following a style or direction simply because it matches their identity.

I also just generally enjoy going back through the chapter after reading it and looking closely at the pictures. Every design is so beautiful and worth studying separately.
