Business Concept Research – ideation post

Ideate – Small / Medium / Large Businesses

Now that you have your chosen movie character, think about what type of company your character would have in different size business. You do not need to think about the name of the company, rather what type of company, product or service it offers.

01

Choose three-five companies that are Small/Medium/Large

What defines S/M/L?

  • Small companies are generally hyper local offering a very specific service or product, owned by one or two people with limited staff.
  • Medium companies have staff of 50-500. They usually have a revenue of $10 million to $1 billion and offer large scale services or product that are commonplace.
  • Large companies  are national or global companies, think top Fortune 500 brands with deep pockets and extraordinary budgets.

For example in hardware stores:

  • Small: Jack’s Hardware store, an independent local hardware store.
  • Medium: Hamshaw’s Lumber, they have a few locations and are apart of the ‘Ace Hardware’ family.
  • Large: Home Depot, the largest hardware store with their website being the largest ‘Hardware store’ in the country with millions of products.

Write a Business Concept Post

Post Name: [character name] Businesses
Category: 04 Business Concept

Brainstorm  3-5 company ideas for each size of business — S/M/L — and briefly answer the following questions for each one:

  1. What archetype (or archetypes) are your characters?
  2. What is the name of the business?
  3. What is the size of the business?
  4. Who is the character?
  5. How does the business relate to the character?
  6. What is the product or service?
  7. Who is it for?
  8. What are the identity opportunities, touch points, applications?
  9. What is the brand archetype (or two)?

When thinking about this imagine the applications (touch points) you are interested in. Do you want to do a product packaging design? The business should produce one. Interested in designing a mobile app? The business should have one. Menus for restaurants. Posters for an performance business and so on. What would that company need?

Write a few sentence story of the business.
