01 Receipt

I thought it was interesting how far back receipts go – I wasn’t aware that they predate many languages and took years to decipher. I also find it fascinating that Cuneiform tablets were used so long ago and that we’re now reverting to using them to preserve modern books and technology. The purposes of early receipts were very different from what we use them for today – I’m surprised they were mainly used for gossip and trading. From my own personal experiences, I usually toss receipts. They either end up free flowing in my purse or on the ground of my car at times. The only times I keep receipts are when I am buying clothes (in case I need to return) or if I’m using gift cards so I can see left over balances. Other than that, I don’t pay much attention to them – maybe I should start?

Should We Ban Receipts?

I was curious about CVS’s attempt to transition from paper to digital receipts, and it got me thinking about the potential impact if we stopped using paper receipts altogether. The production of paper receipts affects the environment – forests, oil, carbon dioxide emissions, water usage, and waste are all involved in the process.
