Valentina D’Efilippo

Valentina D’Efilippo

I enjoy this piece very much as the cover was certainly eyecatching. Looking through the pages there’s more and more designs that all relate to this original cover. Within this one design we can see there’s two main colors which are blue and red. Throughout the chapter pages those two colors are the only ones being included in each drawing. In this book it talks about the brain and how it works. There is memory, the unconscious state, thinking, perceiving, intelligence, etc. Her work seems to focus on the idea of illusions to really make our brain think. I thought that was very well thought out in her design to match the content of the book. She is able to make us use our brains and really evaluate her work as we learn about the brain itself. It’s very mesmerizing to see she keeps the same theme, pattern and thickness as made in the cover with multiple other images.

Giorgia Lupi

I chose Giorgia Lupe because her work seemed so artistic and illustrative. In her work it seems that she leans towards a more hands on style of design. She incorporates a lot of texture and it seems more handwritten than digital in some areas. This work specifically I like to see. Personally I love the floral-like design with the color choices. I thought this piece was bright and inviting. She creates an approach with the type that moves very faded to solid back to very faded again, which looks like she’s creating a texture between each pedal. In this piece, it seems that there is a lack of type hierarchy. There is no piece of information that appears to be more important than the others. The only time a piece of information does seem to have more importance is if it is more bold and more solid. All the type seems to be the same size and font. I see that she related to D’Efilippo as they both seem to incorporate a very illustrative aspect to their work. Both designers enhance the use of artwork in their designs and empower that over the use of typography.
