Information Designers

About Valentina, and The Brain.

The specific work that I chose of Valentina D’Fellipo is the book that she made about brains and how they work. What I found particularly interesting was her use of illustrations that she made to trick the brain. She used the information on each chapter to create a distinct illustration that corresponded with what the chapter talked about. She used complex illustrations with a really limited color palette to emphasize how the brain works. Also from the pages that I can see she used a limited amount of type hierarchy to really affectively communicate what she needs too. I also really like how she referenced outwork outside of her own imagination to further illustrate these concepts of the brain.

About Giorgia Lupi, and Her Work.

My introduction into the world / idea of information design a while back was a post on instagram for pentagram. They were hiring an information designer at the time for this persons team, and I went down a small rabbit hole of her designs. I was drawn in by one, the idea of working for pentagram, and two this big complicated graphic that had a huge twisted knot in the middle. It made me want to engage with the data rather than just be overwhelmed by it from an outside perspective. They relate to D’Efilippo because they also work in this world of complex information design, where they try to make data feel human and easier to engage with.
