United States

The United States is located in North America, bordered by Canada to the north and Mexico to the south. It stretches from the Atlantic Ocean on the east coast to the Pacific Ocean on the west coast. To the southeast, it also borders the Gulf of Mexico, and to the northwest, Alaska touches the Arctic Ocean. The country’s wide geographic span gives it access to multiple major bodies of water – not including the Great Lakes.

Panama

Panama is located in Central America, connecting North and South America through the narrow Isthmus of Panama. It is bordered by Costa Rica to the west and Colombia to the southeast. Panama has coastlines along both the Caribbean Sea to the north and the Pacific Ocean to the south, making it a key crossroads for international maritime trade.

Qatar

Qatar is a small peninsula country located in the Middle East on the northeastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It is surrounded almost entirely by the Persian Gulf and shares its only land border with Saudi Arabia to the south. Qatar’s coastal location on the Gulf gives it access to important shipping routes in the region.

Data Story

I wanted my data to draw conclusions from the coastline length, elevation, and climate facts that I found. I did this because these factors are deeply interconnected and significantly influence the environment and human activity in coastal regions. I think these statistics are important for many reasons; but mainly because they affect weather patterns, erosion rates, storm impacts, and ecosystems of each country (also climate change as a whole). Qatar’s exceptionally low mean elevation of 28m stands out. This low elevation is characteristic of its desert geography. In contrast, the USA’s high mean elevation reflects its diverse terrain, including major mountain ranges. Overall, the data illustrates how geography and climate shape the environmental and economic landscapes of each country.
