Valentina D’Efilippo

One work by Valentina I am intrigued by is her book, “The Brain – A User’s Guide”. I think it’s impressive how she’s able to create a book that highlights all the qualitative aspects of the brain and ways to utilize them, such as in the realm of thinking. I definitely want to check it out in the future because it seems like a very fun and interesting read that could even help some people deal with the complexities of their own minds. I think this piece of her work generates insight because it is simply an informational book that is insightful by duty. One more note to add is that the style of the images in the book is all very vivid and has a shaky quality to them, which I think somewhat works with the content of the book.

Another information designer I found goes by the name of Rudolph Modley, who made “isotypes.” Isotypes are simple, 2d images that represent something as visual information. I chose him because He is from an era of design that was more primitive than the cutting-edge graphics of today, so it’s interesting what Rudolph made work back then. He would make newspaper sections that include visuals of data that use simple B/W pictures to show information more effectively and interestingly. His work is related to Valentina’s because they are both information designers, but differ in the fact that he did more visuals displaying statistics in a slightly amusing way to incite a little bit of change.
