Elements of Graphic Design

The reading opened my eyes to see the small differences details can make that can change your entire perspective of something. The reading informed me that in design, too much detail is bad. They used the example that getting your coffee filled to the top has a greater chance of it spilling on you rather than if it was poured lower. Designers want to make a design that is simple, but has meaning. Making something that is simple is better than having too much information on the design, which can lead the final reaction to be confusing or misleading. I also noticed how they said that design isn’t a result, it’s a process. Design is a job that needs a lot of steps and planning before any result can come. It is with patience and security that gets them to the final result.

Space affects our everyday lives. It can change how we feel or act. For example, when prisoners get sent into “the hole”, they can easily become crazy or angry because they’re locked up in such a tight space. Another example is let’s say there’s one big room and a wall separates it and on one side there’s a kitchen and the other is a dining room. If you were to just remove that wall, then to the human eye, you would immediately think about how big the space is. With the wall there, your body becomes more tight and claustrophobic and it would feel much smaller even though it’s the same amount of space in both scenarios.
