Graphic Design has always been something I saw as super cool, but never anything I thought I could do. I always thought that I was not creative enough or knew enough about it to be able to succeed. But I have realized from this reading, that Graphic Design is all about how the designer interprets things and expresses them in their own way. This made me very excited to partake in this class, and to see what I can produce. All in all, Graphic Design to me is more of an avenue of fun and self expression rather than for a major. Even though it is not something I will be doing as a career, that doesn’t mean I won’t take aspects of what I learn of Graphic Design and incorporate that into my career/life. I especially liked how towards the beginning of the reading, it talked about the intents of Graphic Design. I believe all three -persuade, identify, and inform- are useful skills to possess in many areas of work. These will be beyond useful for me, as I want to be a nurse. My hope for this class, is I will be able to not only enjoy myself and explore my creative side, but also learn valuable skills which will be incorporated in other aspects of my life.
Motion Design
The two categories that caught my eye the most were motion and publication. Motion definitely interests me because it is essentially our “television world”. All of the commercials, trailers, intros/outros to shows, and so much more are all the works of motion designers. Sometimes there are commercials that are weird, but intriguing, and that’s what catches the buyers attention. I found some of the best animated commercials from 2021 so far, that I think everyone should take a look at. It’s so much a part of our world today, that it is something I didn’t even take into consideration much. But ultimately when I was thinking about it, it is so important. The commercials we see affect what we buy/think, and trailers will determine if we want to watch that specific show or movie. Here is a link to the forty greatest animated movies ever. I think it would super cool to be able to be able to have some experience in motion design.
Publication Design
I was also very interested in publication design because that too has a huge impact on our lives. It is our newspapers, magazines -the things we use to get our information. There are so many amazing designers all around the world who produce designs to spread information. I wanted to include these beautiful magazine designs from all around the world to really highlight the diversity in designs. With that being said, it is an essential way that we learn about recent events occurring, beliefs people have, and what is going on in the world. Meaning that publication design could have a great impact on how/what people believe in, and is a way for people to be persuaded into new beliefs. The fact that publication design plays such a big role in our everyday lives, makes it so intriguing to me. Not to mention that all publication designs are stunning.
