What is Graphic Design?
Graphic design is a very important skill to have in this new world of technology. After taking online school for almost a year now, I was able to analyze how my brain worked best. I reckoned that the only way I can learn and retain information is through the media I am being shown. An interest in graphic design started with just that, a need to have my body and brain focused on whatever topic is at hand. A way my, and many other Gen Z’s, brains work is through creativity and shorter term media and such. I want to use the knowledge I gain in this class to then help catch my generation’s eyes once I get to my career. I can see myself using this class for both my passion and career in the future. Finding hobbies I enjoy is very important to me because having distractions in turn, can help with one’s mental health. Helping my friends in the future with anything they need done in this field is another reason I would love to learn. In addition, once I open my dream coffee shop, creating media that drives my customers in will help my business. Creating relationships with my customers by helping them make flyers or anything else to show to the public will also be helpful to my community. When getting into graphic design I saw here are many designs I can use to achieve these future goals, especially environmental and interaction design.
Environmental Design
Environmental design is best described to me as a model of what you are showing to your audience. When building a space, you can picture a smaller version made out of wood and or clay and being shown in person to a team of investors and such. However, with graphic design, this can be done in a software, able to show virtually anyone wanted. There are many advantages to this design starting with the visual ques that will intrigue those seeing it.Those audio visual ques are the reasons for my interest in environmental design and its space for creativity. The quick text informed me that the best way to make environmental design is to include those methods through lighting, sound, and even music.In addiction, the short website informed that visual cues can be used to show a wall or curtain color of room being modeled. A way I would do this, is for example, when I open up a coffee shop, I show my plan, or layout of the shop. I would play a happy but soothing song paired with soft warm lighting over my model, that way my investors feel calm. I would then include flyers and a menu board as my visual method to show an investor what I will be providing in said shop as well as any other messages.
Interaction Design
Interaction design is very good for my visual and hands on learning techniques. I find myself understanding and enjoying things more when I am involved and looking at a product or moment. Reading about interaction design on a blog, it creates a meaningful relationship between the people using or looking at the said product. I am very intrigued by connections with people in any which way, its very interesting how the human brain works based off of things such as digital design. This is important because, now with how life has been, the company or business using an interaction design process, can still help customers enjoy their product without going out. If I were to use this design in my future with owning a coffee shop, I would create a website in which customers can make their own drink. From this I could go two ways. One way, I can create the drink for them, like online ordering, I can also allow them to create a new drink that I can sell to everyone, a way I can value my customer’s opinions through interaction design.
