Karma by La Nata Choreography – Rotoscope

I will be filming a dance choreography that my friend and I created based on a 30-second, free-to-use song. We will pick one together to make sure we like the vibes. I will be rotoscoping my friend and me, and then parts of the background or the whole background. I will animate some funky textures and patterns that fit the music and the dance style. I want to utilize color, texture, and shapes to really attach the dance choreography to the music. I am not sure what the style of dance or music we will use will be. My friend and I typically, for performance art, will find what grooves with us the most. I want it to have some groove and energy to it, so the composition and all the parts will show that. I might have another friend to dance with us, it depends on how the meeting goes and scheduling. If it is 3 people, I will rotoscope all 3 and the background.

Specifically for the types of rotoscope effects I will explore, I will be trying out a variety. It also depends on the music we end up choosing and the choreography. I definitely want to play around with isolating different elements and emphasizing different music cues and movements that stick out. I would like a bit of freeze framing, drawn in effects, neon glow/scribbles, texture changes, and color inversions. I will also use text behind and in front of the figures for the lyrics. With the rotoscoping effects, I am gonna try a bunch of different effects and see what I like and what matches with the music and video. I also want to add some trail effects.

When synchronizing the music, sound effects, and choreography to the animation, the syncing will be based on the music and choreography. So the choreography will add emphasis to the parts of the music that are emphasized with insturmental build up/drop, lyrical cadence, and other parts that stick out. Then, with the baseline beat and the various instrumental portions, I will have the rotoscope effects represent those. Using color changes, scene change, etc to highlight different parts to sync everything together. It may come off a bit chaotic, but it is gonna be super fun and a little bit of something happening throughout the video.
