I took this quiz multiple times to achieve this score. I had a lot of trouble with the words that needed a more kerning than others such as “Toronto” and Quijote.” I found it easier to kern the words that only required a little adjusting and harder to find the right spot for the letters that needed to be moved greatly.

practicing kerning was easy but doing it correctly was at times challenging

The hardest words that I came across was “Quitjote” and “Yvess” because of the type of font and the spacing we had to utilize between the first and last letter. I thought it was a fun little quiz and really tested your eyes.

For my quiz score I got an 88%. I noticed that the ticker the letters are the easier it was to kern and when you had thinner letters it took longer. I found the the word Toronto to be challenging because of the T and how spaced out it needed to be. I also found the word Quijote to be challenging because of the end of the Q and how it had a tail at the end.

After taking the Kern Quiz many, many times, the final grade that I decided to use was a 94. Although it took me a while to obtain a score like this, I though the quiz was very eye-opening on how my skills of kerning were. I really liked that this quiz gave you the opportunity to manually do it. For me the words that I struggled with the most was xylophone and yvess. I’m not exactly sure what about these two words made me struggle so much but I continued to struggle with these two words. Overall, I enjoyed this quiz and think this helped a lot.

The quiz itself was fun and challenging. I could have done better than 87, but I found it difficult to kern with capital letters. I would leave too big of a space between capital and lowercase, I think because my eyes are so used to it. I’m going to keep trying to do better, overall it was interesting and I’m glad we had time in class to complete the quiz.

This quiz really gave me a good idea of how kerning works and how to do it accurately. The longer the words got, the more difficult it became to kern everything in a way that looked similar throughout the entire word. The hardest word for me was “gargantuan” because of how close together the letters fell. After taking this quiz and doing this activity, I really see the importance of kerning and the affect it can have on a word.

Overall, I think the kern quiz was a fairly accurate representation of what kerning is really like using illustrator. However, I don’t think there is necessarily one solution when it comes to kerning like there was in the quiz. There are certainly ways to kern that look better than the default. The most challenging words for me to kern in the quiz were AWAIT, YVESS, and WAVE.

I took this quiz twice and each time I ran into different problems with different words. The first time I was trying to make the word look perfect to me and not thinking how the shapes of the letters flowed together. The second time around I found it a little easier to realize how the letters flowed with each other which helped my score go up. The words I had trouble with were the ones that had serifs, more thicks and thins and the letters that were curved next to each other.

I got an 84 on my thrid try. I fould it diffcult to figure out each space for the varable letters that all have their own individual space. i found after playing around with the letter and stepping back and giving it an overall looked helped me see the awkward areas and lead me to the solution
