Senticous, Sizzle, Tension, Alluring

Senticous

To be prickly; thorny

This is the lost word I chose. It’s interesting that the lost word dictionary has it as only being relevant for a year, and I wonder why it stopped being used so quickly.

Sizzle

To create a hissing sound, often as a product of intense heat

I learned it originated from the 1500s, which seems odd because I tend to think of our everyday words as having existed forever.

Tension

A state of being stretched or strained

It originates from the Latin word tensionem, which means “a stretching”.

Alluring

To be attractive or to draw in; enticing; seductive; charming

It originates from the Anglo-French word “allurer”.
