This assignment and reading changed my perspective on how framing influences how something is seen. I haven’t put much thought into how things can be seen so differently or cause so many questions just by framing it different. While reading, I realized and learned how different things function like a frame that I would never think about, such as a toolbox, buttons on a television set, the index of a book etc. I wouldn’t notice of these items right away and think of them as “framing” something without reading this and woking on this assignment. I had a general knowledge and understanding on framing and what it would do for specific things even as simple as borders and how that would make an image read. Language can also frame things even just by how you start a sentence or end a phrase, it changes the overall tone and how you feel about it. With this, I gained a new perspective on how framing isn’t always a physical thing and is used in different way to guide the viewers perspective. Windows and doors frame a house, or the house frame them, while also allowing room for them to be seen as exits or entrances. A window specifically can change a space by giving it something to frame or multiples things to frame and while also making the space seem more open as well. This also goes along with the saying while something is blocking your view, “you make a better door than a window”, because even then they are framing.
